Enbridge Gas Assists the Township of Beckwith Fire Department in Supporting Firefighter Training

BECKWITH, ON, November 14, 2023 – Enbridge Gas Inc. (Enbridge Gas) is helping Beckwith Fire Department purchase firefighting training materials, through Safe Community Project Assist–a program with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC) that supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in the communities where Enbridge Gas operates.

Providing support to Ontario firefighters with emergency response training, we’re equipping the heroes of tomorrow to better protect the communities we live and work in–keeping them healthy and vibrant,” says Erin Arthur, Eastern Region Field Advisor, Enbridge Gas.  This year’s $250,000 donation from Enbridge Gas will be shared by 50 Ontario fire departments, including Beckwith Fire Department. Funds are used to purchase educational materials to assist in training firefighters in life-saving techniques.
Since the launch of Safe Community Project Assist in 2012, 344 grants have been provided to Ontario fire departments for additional firefighter training.

“Fire departments train every single day and that’s why it’s important for them to have access to the right materials to keep their members and the public safe. Safe Community Project Assist helps departments afford some of these training tools and improves the ongoing learning that occurs across Ontario,” says Jon Pegg, Ontario Fire Marshal, and Chair of the FMPFSC.

“I would like to thank Enbridge for their financial support for our fire department training here in Beckwith Township. These resources will enhance the training for our volunteer fire department members. The fire department is continuously training and refreshing their skills and these resources will assist the township in keeping them safe while training and during incidents. We are proud of the professional protective service which our department provides to our community,” says Richard Kidd, Reeve of Beckwith Township.

“Although we are a small rural volunteer fire department, our dedicated group of firefighters train with a high level of commitment and professionalism to ensure that we offer the highest level of service we can to our community. This grant from Enbridge through the FMPFSC will help ensure that we can continue to provide current and up-to-date training resource materials to our new recruits, as well as continuing education to our current members,” says Ian Jackson, Beckwith Fire Chief.

About the Beckwith Township Fire Department The Beckwith Township Fire Department was established in 1964 to provide fire protection to the residents of the Township of Beckwith, which is located on the west side of the City of Ottawa. Today, the department is made up of 26 volunteer firefighters operating out of a single station in Blacks Corners.
