As COVID-19 pandemic is evolving quickly and updates are emerging daily, we want to assure our residents that the Township is monitoring new information as it becomes available in order to be able to ensure the health and safety of our residents.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a new set of economic measures to help stabilize the economy and help Canadians affected by the impacts of this challenging period. A few of these measures include:
Support For Workers:
Additional assistance to families with children Introducing an emergency care benefit Funding for workers including self-employed who are sick, caring for quarantined individuals or who have been directed to self-isolate but do not qualify for employment insurance (EI) sickness benefits EI-eligible and non EI-eligible working parents who must stay home without pay because of children who are sick or who need additional care because of school closures. Additional assistance to individuals and families with low and modest incomes by providing a special top-up. For further details, please see the full announcement below:
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) – Non-essential Services
During this time, the Lanark County OPP Detachment is restricting access to the public. Aside from restriction, Lanark County OPP will continue to operate as normal at this time. See below link for further details:
Beckwith Volunteer Fire Department
The Beckwith Volunteer Fire Department is still operating as normal. Any calls involving COVID-19 symptoms are being appropriately screened by dispatch to keep our firefights safe. Residents are being asked to continue to call 911 in an emergency. Anyone who has travelled internationally should stay at home and monitor themselves for symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath for 14 days after their return. If they become ill they should contact the Health Unit at 613-345-5685 to be assessed over the phone for further instruction.
