A new Veterans Memorial Garden is being planned for the United Cemeteries of Saint Fillans, Maple Wood and Pine Grove located off of Cemetery Side Road in Beckwith Township through a joint effort of the Cemetery Board and the Captain A. Roy Brown Carleton Place Legion Branch 192.
It was felt that the current Veterans Memorial Garden had outlived the confined space where it is currently located within the cemetery and that a new Veterans Memorial Garden would be located in a much more open space. A large maple tree had overshadowed the flagpole and National Flag of Canada at the present location.
The new Veterans Memorial Garden will be located in an open area between the cemetery garage and the crematorium. It includes a cement pathway leading up to the base of the flagpole which will fly the National Flag of Canada. A granite Veterans Memorial Bench is placed at the rear of the base of the flagpole, and a Legion Plaque is situation just to the right and front of the base of the flag pole. The granite Memorial Bench and Legion Plaque have been donated by the Captain A. Roy Brown Legion Branch 192.
A Dedication Ceremony to unveil the new Veterans Memorial Garden will be held on Sunday, September 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Garden site within the United Cemetery off of Cemetery Side Road in Beckwith Township. The general public are invited to attend this special ceremony.
Since this date also falls on the beginning of Legion Week, a special Open House and social time will follow at the Captain A. Roy Brown Legion Branch 192 and the general public are invited to attend as the Branch showcases its facilities.
